Blog – Why Have Gratitude for the Small Things?

Welcome back to my blog. I hope you’re having an amazing day, wherever you are. It’s a fine day here in paradise (but then: it always is)! I wanted to take this opportunity to speak about why you should have gratitude for the small things.

I know that right now, what with all the bleakness that appears to be out there in the world, it can sometimes seem hard to find things to be grateful for. Or…actually, let me put that another way: it can be easy to slip into ingratitude for what we have around us.

I know that, probably for a lot of you: your main focus at any given time, is on pursuing your dream, your goal or whatever you want to call it. You feel like you are on the path to your dream life, or at the very least: you have the ability to be on it, should you choose to be. What with world events carrying on the way they are, that focus/choice might well seem as though it’s been ripped from you. But that is just perception. 

Having your eyes set on the horizon isn’t a bad thing, please don’t misunderstand me here. The dream is something I encourage always (albeit with open eyes). That said, and as global crises like the current one serve to highlight: not taking stock of where we are in the present can be very limiting! 

I would give the same advice, whether this was going on right now or not: take some time out to be grateful for the small things. 

I’m very fortunate to live where I do. I get to go for beautiful walks along sandy beaches in the sun. I have stunning scenery all around me that I can go explore whenever I want to! 

The point, as I’m sure you’ve probably gathered by now, is that gratitude is a much more expansive energy than ingratitude. There may well be a number of things that you are legit pissed off about right now. I get it! But that angry, anxious energy isn’t serving you.

Think about it: you’re placing a lot of your energy and focus on the very thing that you don’t want. I know you can’t control government responses to viral outbreaks, short of staging a coup d’etat…and even then! You can choose to remain in a space of expansive energy though. 

How?

By practicing gratitude for the small things. The everyday things. The things, people and places that we maybe take for granted, day-to-day. These are what enable us to keep going during the good times. They might seem innocuous, but they are just as much a part of your journey as the big leaps forward. 

As I say: gratitude is far more expansive than ingratitude. As an energy that serves you, gratitude is massive! And you want to know the beautiful thing about gratitude?

The universe doesn’t know (or care) what you’re grateful for! 

 If you hold the frequency of gratitude, you’ll get more to be grateful for. You can be grateful for anything (as long as it’s genuine) and you’ll be rewarded with more, which is why I say: be grateful for the small things. On a cost/reward basis, they offer the best return – if you want to think of it like that. 

There’s more of them and they all pay out emotionally just the same! 

So start counting your blessings. Daily! Before you know it, you’ll be finding more and more to be grateful for and that deal that can’t happen right now, won’t seem anywhere near as important. In fact, being in such an expansive state and higher frequency – you’ll most likely find an alternative that can happen now, and offers you more in the long run anyway.
