Wish you knew how it all turns out for you? Well guess what: you do!
It’s time for another Dream With Dan blog, my lovely, lovely peeps. Today, we are talking about the present. Do you want to know if it all works out for you in the end? All you need for that is right here for you now!
This came up in conversation with the awesomely affable Jeff Smith, on an episode of his Vroom, Vroom, Veer podcast. You can listen to the full episode here:
As I said to Jeff:
Where we’ve been is an indicator of where we are. How we reflect back consciously on where we’ve been, is an indicator of where we’re going.
You see, it’s all about what we choose to do with what we’ve got in the moment and more than that: it’s how engaged we are with those choices on a conscious level.
It’s an oft discussed topic, so I won’t dwell too much on it here: but past traumas can have a significant impact on people’s future potential. We know that victims of domestic abuse as children, will often grow up to be offenders themselves, and/or have significant limiting beliefs about their self-worth.
It is all about what we are consciously choosing though, and moreover: what we are able to consciously choose.
It’s all well and good for the likes of me (and probably you too) to sit here and sound like we’re pointing the finger at poor decision makers. We have managed to get to a state of awareness about ourselves, that enables us to make deliberately chosen decisions. If only to actively look for materials that will help us to do that.
As I spoke about in my previous blog on Are Subconscious Choices Really Made Consciously? I think that it is possible to be running on subconscious programming, built when we were still developing children, that has hitherto gone unchallenged. And when I say ‘unchallenged’ I mean: by us!
This programming can be informing our decision making at a profound level, and keeping us in a state of unhappiness.
You can’t know if it all works out for you because you have no confidence, experience or emotional preparation for that outcome!
Finding a way to bring our awareness to our subconscious, and letting it speak to us (via meditation, breath work or whatever works for you) is a vital step to beginning to understand where we need to step in consciously and start running the show!
In my own story – thanks to changes in grading criteria in the UK education system; I lost my place at Oxford University. Reenforcing the unfairness was my Father who, at the time, wouldn’t help me in the way I needed; to challenge my newly adjusted grades and win back my place.
I’m sure that I don’t need to tell you: Oxford University is a highly prestigious place to get a degree.
So my reaction to this (as a male in his late teens) was to say f**k the systems, I’m going to do my own thing. Coincidentally – my personality trait is a rebel, in case you hadn’t already guessed. So I set out, on my own, to prove my ‘thesis’ (that the system was all BS) and I started forcing my way into the world of business.
I was a millionaire by the age of 20….and then promptly lost it all shortly thereafter. A pattern I would later repeat some years later.
Why?!
Because my inner game was still running on a program of lack! I had set out to create abundance simply for the sake of saying “F YOU” to the education system and my Dad.
Great…I did that, but it’s not a winning formula for holding on to it.
When you think about it I had achieved exactly what I set out to. My internal program (which never loses by the way) had served its purpose with ruthless efficiency. I had ‘F’ED’ everyone I needed to ‘F’. But beyond ‘F YOU’ wasn’t somewhere I had any clue about, and so normal service resumed.
The subconscious is a devastatingly powerful tool. Probably the single most powerful one in your arsenal, if deployed properly.
Jumping ahead somewhat; this is what ultimately led me to create Beyond Intention. I think you can probably get a sense of why I named it that now, yes?
How many times have you started to make strides in your personal or professional life, only to find yourself back at square one within a short space of time? Tale as old as time, isn’t it?
If that’s you with a diet, money-making strategy or whatever: you ‘failed’ because you didn’t adjust who you are in relation to your environment. You set out to be thin Paul, as fat Paul. Or you set out to be rich Rachel, as poor Rachel.
Now I’m not saying this to make you feel stupid or bad. You’ve already got enough resistance to change going on within you, without me adding to it by piling on the shame. What I am endeavouring to do, is to shed some light on this for you, so that you can start to right the ship!
The fact is, Paul and Rachel didn’t fail at all! They succeeded. They just did it at being their old selves, which was a subconsciously chosen outcome rather than a consciously chosen one.
You may feel like you’re at the foot of a huge mountain, but focus on what’s right infant of you. Just focus on the minimum deliverables and be gentle with yourself. I have lots of Free Resources here on my site to help get you started. They don’t require any investment from you, other than your time.
So – if you want to know if it all works out for you in the end (whatever that really means) then you have everything you need right in front of you.
- Have you identified, precisely what ‘it all working out in the end’ actually means to you? Do you know how it will feel, at a deeply emotional level, when you are living in that very state?
- Have you done the internal work to identify and rout out all of the internal programming that is not serving you in your goal? This is incredibly hard, probably the hardest of all, because you will be fighting some of your most deeply held beliefs and emotions.
- Moment-to-moment – are you making deliberate choices that are aligned with you reaching your desired outcome?
You know what I choose to take away from the first two times I became a millionaire and then lost it all? The fact that, at the very least, it informed my belief system that it was possible. It removed any doubt that I could do it, or that I was worthy and with the right goals, chosen for the right reasons: it all worked out for me in the end.
I wish you nothing but love, abundance and success in creating you ideal life.
