What Am I Missing?

Need help finding the missing piece of your puzzle? Read on!

Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog. I hope this find you well and that you find something enlightening in what I’m about to say. This is for those of you who have been doing lots of inner work, lots of meditating and soul-searching, but still find yourself coming up short and wondering “what am I missing?”

Don’t worry, you’re not alone!

I see this all the time and it’s not the preserve of the uninitiated, or those who lack training. It’s very easy to forget day-to-day the need for alignment and taking action.

What do I mean specifically?

Well, let’s use the analogy of a streaming service. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu…take you pick. It’s probably fast becoming a ‘well worn’ analogy to use, but what the heck!

If you think of the alignment of equipment and services that has to be there, in order for you to be able to enjoy that sweet, sweet content; that’s a lot like life!

Now for the purposes of this analogy, I’m not going to involve the process of production that the content entails as well. That’s a whole other thing, but basically you need three things:

  • The streaming service.
  • An internet connection with an open firewall.
  • To press play on the content you want to watch.

Now the streaming service represents infinite possibility (those of you who’ve found yourself staring at your TV, remote in hand with a glazed expression on your face will know what I’m talking about).

The internet connection, and more specifically the firewall, represent our belief system. We block so much incoming traffic (most of it with good reason) so as to keep ourselves from being overwhelmed. The trouble is; we can also block the things we want to experience inadvertently.

Pressing play is simply a representation of the need to act. This is probably the piece of the puzzle I see missing in the most people. An opportunity is right in front of them and they don’t take action. Either that or they think that simply working on their inner game and meditating all day, is all that’s required for something to show up for them. Not so!

OK so…how can we make sure that we are keeping those three processes in check?

If you do find yourself asking “what am I missing here?” just think: have you chosen what you want to stream? That’s the first point of call: have you been deliberate and specific in what you’re selecting for yourself?

If you have, then check your ‘firewall’. Have you mentally rehearsed the outcome you desire, getting familiar with the emotional payoff associated with it? You have to get your belief systems (and therefor: subconscious mind) on side with your desired outcome. Otherwise it will simply thwart your attempts to move towards it with self-sabotaging behaviour and/or procrastination.

After all of the above is in place, you have to remember to ‘press play’!! Taking action is so often what’s missing for people. The opportunity has arrived, it’s right in front of them, but they hesitate to act on it. Why? Mostly it’s the fear and discomfort around change, or it could be unworthiness, but either way: they talk themselves out of it.

Taking action is actually something you can choose to do every day though. Instead of waiting for the ‘download’ to start, you can look for the things within your remit that you can act on now!

You are WAY more resourceful than you probably give yourself credit for. Even those of you who have attained a modest level of financial success, you still have more potential within you to go to the next level. You just need to work on opening up your ‘firewall’ and see what is actually right in front of you.

They say that we are no more than six-degrees of separation from the person who can make our dreams come true. I would bet that, especially if you live in a Western country, the circle is probably much smaller.

So next time you find yourself wondering “What am I missing?” turn that around and think: “who can I reach out to right now, who can help me take the next step?”

Think also in terms minimum-deliverables or ‘micro-steps’. Don’t make the full leap because that just comes with over-whelm and too much resistance. By taking easy steps, that you know you can deliver without breaking a sweat, you begin clearing a path to your desired outcome, through which you can take action and make it inevitable!
