Have the courage to embrace your gift
Hi beautiful people, I hope this finds you safe and well. If it’s your first time stopping by, then from the bottom of my heart – thank you! I’m here to help you realize that a joyful, abundant, purpose-driven life is in fact possible for all of us. Life is not a rehearsal; I repeat, life is not a rehearsal! It’s about what you make of it now, in this very moment. For many, this will often play out as a ‘struggle to success’ story. It’s about celebrating the gifts we have at our disposal and using them to empower us on our journey. (It doesn’t even matter where we’re headed!)
In today’s blog, I’d like to venture closer to home. Looking back on my own personal struggles, I learned a lot along the way. Had it not been for those experiences, I may not have found the success I enjoy today. From struggle to success, I hope you too can take something away from my story.
From struggle to success – my late diagnosis
We all go through changes as we grow up, that much is certain! But you could argue I struggled more than most. Looking back on the journey of ‘Dan’, my own personal struggles started from a young age. Born and raised in East London, UK, I was always different. But my family and close friends assumed it was just ‘me being me’. My ability to adapt socially, however, continued to hinder my progress in so many ways. During what should have been an exciting, transitional chapter of growth and self-discovery, I found myself feeling lost. For a long time, this resulted in crippling insomnia which had a profound impact on my day-to-day performance. As you can imagine, not a great start to the busy schedule of any young person’s life!
What I didn’t know was that I’d been living on the Autistic spectrum that whole time, without even knowing it. At age 27, I received the late diagnosis of Asperger’s, and life as I knew it changed forever.
The power of owning your gift
But what is my gift, I hear you ask?! While it’s already somewhere within you, if you haven’t found it yet, then that’s okay! Acknowledging the fact that it is within you is the first step in the right direction. If I could epitomize the defining ‘light bulb’ moment I’ve encountered on life’s journey thus far, it would be this! While I may have received my Asperger’s diagnosis later than normal, my struggle to success story started within that moment. I found myself in the position where, having been kept in the dark, I had the opportunity to work through my struggles independently. I put strategies in place to overcome these roadblocks, before even knowing what they were.
After receiving the diagnosis and acknowledging my superpower, I was able to approach things differently. I was able to move forward in a more deliberate and purposeful way. Little did I know at the time, but this gift would go onto light the road in more ways than I could possibly imagine!
How Asperger’s defined my struggle to success
None of us are perfect, but it’s often the strength we draw from our perceived ‘imperfections’ that we find the way forward. What once held you back during childhood, for instance, could now help you manifest your true heart’s calling. To this very day I’m grateful for the gift that is my Asperger’s, and the way my mind continues to operate and expand as a result. My ability to digest and process information has empowered me to relay my teachings in a way that is unique to me, and for my students all over the world. This applies to the work I do now more than ever before.
With My Beyond Intention Paradigm for example, I was able to take a complex idea and break it down into four methodical steps anyone can follow. Thanks to the way my brain works, this part was almost effortless! The challenge for me was then learning how to communicate this to people in a universal way that anyone would understand.
It doesn’t matter where you came from
As humans, you could argue that we’re programmed to dwell on our past mistakes. Hands up who’s been there before?! But the road already taken is not one we can change. It’s about acknowledging and owning those ‘failures’ and learning to move on as swiftly as we can with gratitude. (You should know by now, I don’t believe in failure either!) Instead, it’s what we do with the tools available to us in this moment that can go on to effect real change in our lives. My own journey has been a bumpy road, but if it hadn’t been for those hard lessons learnt along the way, I wouldn’t be sat here talking to you now! Through my own experience of hitting rock bottom, I made it my job to learn how to successfully end my own life. Yet thanks to the energy I chose to channel into this new sense of purpose, I began consciously choosing to live my life!
While your own struggle to success story may sound very different to mine, we mustn’t allow our struggles to thwart us. Through celebrating the gifts that may once have held us back can we hope to move closer to living a life of joy and abundance.
