Don’t get shaken off the swing! Stay the course and keep your seat on the ride.
Happy Friday everyone.
I hope your “working week” has been a joyous one, filled with purpose and abundance. I hope that has been the case for you, because that’s what I always hope for you, but please don’t take that to mean that if your week/day/month has not been like that, that somehow you’ve failed.
I wanted to speak about those times when you’re feeling like you’re doing everything right, but aren’t seeing the fruits of your labour.
I get it! I’ve been there more than once, and it’s tough! Motivational Speakers, Ted Talkers, Rocky et al… would probably refer to this as something like “make or break”, “the real test of your metal” or “the night is darkest before the dawn.” Insert whatever motivational platitude you like, but they do have a point, albeit one that I think could be more helpful if it were just slightly more nuanced.
Some of you may have heard me say:
“If you’re doing everything right, then nothing is going wrong”
If not then you just have! Either way, the point is that even though things may appear to not be working out for you; they are!
What we fail to recognise sometimes is that we exist in a world of duality where everything has a polarity. We can get caught up in the swing between poles, thinking that just because the only way isn’t up, we must be caught in some personal well of unfairness.
What we need to understand is that this is part of the journey! As my conversation with David Strickel and The Stream (available to listen to here: https://thestreamofdavid.com/awakening-to-abundance-with-dan-mangena) revealed:
“The drive to eliminate all of the negativity in the world is, when viewed from the perspective of expansion, a foolish one. “If you were to do so, your world would not exist” The Stream points out. This utopian “new Earth” that so many people lay claim to having discovered, doesn’t involve contrast so how can it exist?”The Stream
So if you set your goal clearly, center yourself, hold the vibrational match with your desired outcome and take actions that are aligned with it; you are on the path to it happening. Period. What can not happen, however, is that, that path will be a linear one. How can it be?! You’re moving between two poles and each move will require contrast in order to make it manifest.
Now this sounds like I’m making a case for us just spinning our wheels! “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction” etc… Not so at all, but in order to know that we are growing, we have to have something to contrast that growth against.
Think how we grow physically – from infant to adult is quite the leap. If you put a picture of you as a baby next to a picture of yourself today, you’d see the two poles right? However in-between those poles were growth spurts, puberty, weight gain, weight loss and no doubt a million other stages. You know you’ve grown or passed through those stages because you can contrast where you are now against where you were.
Achieving a goal is exactly the same. Don’t lose sight of that!
So “if you’re doing everything right, nothing is going wrong” should start to make more sense now. Asking the universe for something huge, requires something huge to contrast it against. I’m not saying that you have to be destitute before you can be rich, but the reality of your situation and the road ahead has to be revealed to you, in order that you really achieve your goal.
A goal or aim requires effort to get there. I think we all get that. This probably undergirds a lot of the disdain we have for “the rich” in society; the idea that it’s all unearned wealth and that they don’t appreciate it. My misgivings about the broader implications of that sentiment aside, I can understand it.
Think though for a second; those born to wealth have not achieved anything. Being rich wasn’t a goal for them, as it is for you. They just are. If anything, they are deserving of your pity for not having had the contrast to measure their situation against. Moreover: they will have a harder time getting their heads round the concept of achieving goals, because of the apathy/lack of need to be resourceful that you’ve had to cultivate out of necessity.
I’ve had huge losses that, one way or another, turned into huge wins. One in particular wound up landing me with a massive government contract. Understand that these are swings, and the bigger the swing one way, the further it can carry you the other.
The universe is always moving. We need to allow for that movement, as part of the adventure. Don’t see it as holding you back, but rather maintain a curiosity for how your journey is going to unfold, safe in the knowledge that it will.
