Are you really all about the money?

Lisa is an author, speaker, truth seeker with qualifications in numerous energy modalities. She is passionate about life and it is with her big heart and love of humans, combined with an innate ability to communicate, that she effortlessly uncovers the gold that exists within people and their lives.
Lisa has been deeply immersed in the world of personal development for well over a decade and has experienced the gifts of deeply transforming oneself from suffering and surviving, to thriving. She brings to the table a real rawness, integrity, authenticity and infectious energy that has people deeply engaged in her conversations and work.
Her inspiration and her ‘why’ is to support people in reconnecting with the immense power that resides within them, and remembering that they are more extraordinary, more beautiful and more powerful than they have ever known.
So like I said; today I want to speak to something that came up, when I was in conversation with Lisa, about abundance.
‘Abundance’ is a word that I have a growing association with. I have been at pains to use that word in place of ‘wealth’ or ‘finances’ because I wanted to show to people that living an abundant life, doesn’t have to be measured by what you have in the bank.
Don’t mistake that, though, for me taking up the position that some more spiritually minded folks do, of saying that it shouldn’t be about the money. On the contrary!
In terms of my own life of abundance, money plays a huge roll! I live in paradise, down here in Cabo, Mexico. I have a lovely house, beautiful, budding little family and if I want to do something: I can.
That’s really what a life of abundance means. It’s not purely about having money, because you can have loads of money and still not be free to do as you please. This is often the trap a lot of people fall into, under the supposition that in order to earn more, they must work more. Before you know it, they’re never home always away on business and don’t have any time to enjoy their spoils!
True abundance and true wealth, is in freedom of choice.
As Lisa quite rightly points out: we often feel under pressure to live abundantly, but with the conditioning, and under a set of rules, that simply won’t allow for it!
Now don’t get me wrong: I work hard! I often get complaints from my family that I’m working too much, but here’s the thing: it doesn’t feel like work for me. I only work at what I choose to! That’s the difference. Wage-slavery ain’t no abundance!
Another facet (if you will) to an abundant life, is the confidence in your ability to be resourceful. Meaning: if I want to do something but I don’t have the immediate means to do so at my disposal, I know that I can get them and in fairly short order.
It is in this way that one can argue that it’s not about the money. There have, in fact, been times in my relatively recent life, where I didn’t have a lot of financial resources at my disposal, but I was still able to live a life of abundance.
I didn’t have a home, I was living out of a suitcase with most of my worldly possessions in storage. But I was still able to travel, couch-surf, attend workshops and give couching sessions – I was just able to make it happen. You can be that way too! Large amounts of wealth make a lifestyle like that ‘simpler’ but not exclusively so.
These days we have SO much knowledge at our fingertips. We have the ability to generate wealth from our laps, or tap into the resourcefulness/know-how of others completely for free!
What I find sad, when I talk to people who’ve fallen prey to this idea that we must work long and hard for the means, for the “permission” almost; is that they are giving away their power and creativity! If you truly believe that you only deserve wealth and resources if you slog your guts out in a job, then you close yourself off to all of the wonderful experiences and opportunities that life has for you! You close yourself off to all of the ways in which your abundance can come to you, and that’s truly tragic!
As Lisa quite rightly pointed out: this requires a level of awareness and then crucially – acceptance, in order to change. And that is what my next blog is going to be on.
