Does success seem to come in fits & starts for you? Here’s a story about maintaining momentum.
How can you maintain your momentum? OK, you know the score: Monday morning, you’re full of beans and raring to go! You’ve had a great weekend, but you’re recharged and just want to get back to business.
I can empathise. I think for a lot of entrepreneurs and self-employed folk; the weekend stands as a giant momentum killer for your progress, when it rolls around. Like a rock that sits just below the surface of the ocean, killing the energy of the waves above it.
I know that it can also feel like the collective energy of your team, your industry, heck even the world; has been sucked down into the abyss on certain days. Once Wednesday rolls around there’s something in the air that is decidedly soporific. Come Friday…well its as though you’re doing business with yourself!
But does it have to be that way? Does anything have to kill our momentum?
Well just as you can feel the collective vibration sometimes, so to can you feel yours. Not only can you feel it, but with a degree of effort and inner work: you can control it too!
“Do you mean that we can really decide how we want to feel at the end of the day and make that happen?!?”
Yes indeedy, and in order to do so we come back to our good old friend: intention! Or more specifically: clear intentions. You see, we always have momentum in one direction or another. By dint of the fact that you’re alive, you are moving forward, it just might not be in the direction of your desires.
Your subconscious mind is making calculations and decisions at up to a million times the speed of your conscious mind. It does this because it has to and because it has evolved over millennia with the sole purpose of keeping you safe. If you had to consciously fire the muscles necessary to breath, walk and speak on the phone all at the same time, think how quickly you’d fall over!
That should give you a glimpse into just how much information your subconscious processes and how quickly.
Just as the rock disrupts the waves though; so too can we can disrupt the autopilot of our subconscious. You see; it might be quick and high-capacity, but it ain’t all that smart! When we set intentions, we disrupt the pattern that our subconscious is playing out. Intentions are, for all intents and purposes, consciously chosen outcomes. By their very nature, they are disruptive to the patterns of the subconscious.
Our mind is always giving reality a blueprint of what we are going to experience. By setting intentions, we draw up new blueprints. Where the disconnect comes for a lot of people though, is in translating those new instructions so that their subconscious can understand them.
The key lies in our emotions.
These are the first point of call, energetically, for how we experience an event. Our frequency (the engine of our momentum) comes from those feelings and the subconscious bases its blueprint off that.
So when you have a traumatic event say, your subconscious records that as a terrible frequency to be on and then adjusts your blueprint, so that you will avoid feeling like that again. At least that’s how it’s supposed to work, but as I say: it’s not too bright. It doesn’t care about you having expansive, enriching experiences so much as just avoiding pain. So any form of associated trauma around expansion (which is really just ‘the unknown’) and you’ll find yourself shutting down opportunity.
Now, to get all sciencey for a second; the Law of Vibration (not to be confused with the law of attraction) essentially states that we are like a bunch of walking electromagnets. We operate on vibrational signals that attract like for like.
Where a lot of people go wrong, is that they prey/meditate/do yoga for hours on end, expecting that to do the work of attracting their consciously held desires.
That’s not enough though!
We have to follow through with our belief systems. If we have doubt still lodged firmly back there in our minds, we will not see results. Simple as. Our brains have a built in function that will not allow us to see things that we don’t believe are possible.
How can we create supportive belief systems then?
Start by identifying and then surrounding yourself with people, places and things that support your desired outcome. Spend time with others who believe that it is not possible to become rich without being a wage slave, and pretty soon you’ll find yourself kicking your hopes and aspirations to the curb! Find a group of people who have been successful in the way you desire for yourself however, and you’ll have a constant base of evidence for your subconscious that this is possible!
It all starts with intentions though and you have to get clear on them. I can not stress that enough: ask vague questions of the universe and you’ll get a random outcome! Be specific with what you want, be ruthless in pursuit of it and you’ll create certainty for its outcome. Take steps in the direction of your chosen outcome that push your edge, but not your buttons, and you’ll soon find that you’ve made more progress than you ever thought you could!
So next time you find your momentum apparently beginning to wane, just remember who’s running the show here! Get your subconscious out of the driving seat and get back to setting the agenda.
